Thought Creates Character
A person is literally what they think. Their character is the sum of all their thoughts.
Just as a gardener cultivates plants, we cultivate our character through our thoughts. Good thoughts bear good fruit, bad thoughts bear bad fruit.
"A man's mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild."
You cannot directly choose your circumstances, but you can choose your thoughts—and your thoughts shape everything else.
Every action springs from thought. Even our physical health, success, and relationships are rooted in our mental attitude.
Thought Creates Character
You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you.
Observe your thoughts
Notice what you're thinking throughout the day. Are your thoughts primarily positive or negative? Constructive or destructive?
- What patterns do you notice?
- Which thoughts recur most often?
- What mood do your thoughts create?
Pull the weeds
Consciously remove negative, bitter, or fearful thoughts when they arise. Don't dwell on them.
Plant good seeds
Deliberately cultivate thoughts of courage, hope, love, and purpose. Feed your mind with uplifting content.
Your thoughts are the seeds of your character. Choose them wisely and tend them carefully.
