As a Man Thinketh
#02
Chapter 2
Cause & Effect

Circumstance & Thought

Circumstances don't make you—they reveal you. You attract what you are, not what you want.

People often blame their circumstances for their condition, but circumstances are the outward manifestation of inner thoughts.

"Men do not attract that which they want, but that which they are."

Your circumstances may be unpleasant, but they will persist until you change yourself. When you change your thoughts, your circumstances inevitably change.

Suffering is not sent to punish you but to teach you. Every circumstance, good or bad, is sculpting your character—if you let it.

Circumstance & Thought

#02

Circumstance does not make the man; it reveals him to himself.

1

Stop blaming circumstances

Ask: "What in my thinking created this situation?" Own your role completely.

  • What beliefs led to this?
  • What actions followed from those beliefs?
  • What can I learn from this?
2

Change from within

Don't try to change external conditions first. Change your thoughts, habits, and character—circumstances will follow.

3

Use adversity as a forge

See difficulties as opportunities to strengthen your character, not as punishments to endure.

Your outer world mirrors your inner world. Change yourself, and your circumstances will follow.
