Terms of Service

1. Agreement

These Terms are between you and the individual operator of Bitecards (“we”, “us”). By using the site you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site. Our handling of your information is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

2. What Bitecards is — and what it is not

Bitecards publishes decks of cards that distil books, concepts and practical skills into short, actionable summaries. It is general education.

It is not professional advice, and no card creates a professional relationship of any kind. This matters most on the practical decks:

• Home, electrical, plumbing and repair topics are introductions to how things work, not instructions to work on your own home. Building codes and permit rules vary by location. Where a card tells you to make the situation safe and call a licensed professional, treat that as the instruction and the rest as background.
• Driving and vehicle topics describe general principles. Your local traffic law and your vehicle’s owner’s manual govern, and they win over anything on a card.
• Food safety, security, financial and psychological topics are summaries of published thinking, not tailored guidance for your situation.

Decks that summarise a book are our own words about that book. They are not authorised by, endorsed by, or affiliated with any author or publisher, and they are no substitute for reading the original. Where a card quotes a public-domain source it is identified as a quotation.

3. Accounts

Signing in uses your Google account; we do not issue passwords. You are responsible for the security of the Google account you sign in with. Accounts are for one person — do not share access or sign in on someone else’s behalf. You must be at least 13 years old (16 in the UK and EEA) to sign in.

We may suspend or close access if an account is used to abuse the service, to circumvent payment, or in breach of section 6.

4. Free previews and Bitecards Plus

Every deck exposes a number of cards as free previews — usually the first three — and those stay free. Reading the remaining cards requires an active Bitecards Plus subscription.

Subscriptions are not yet live. The subscribe control currently toggles a preview of the unlocked experience in your own browser. No payment is taken, no payment details are collected, and no charge of any kind can occur. When real billing launches, we will publish the price, the billing period, the renewal and cancellation terms and the refund policy before anyone is charged, and we will not convert a preview toggle into a paid subscription.

5. The content, and what you may do with it

The card text, deck structure, cover art and card illustrations are our intellectual property, except for identified public-domain quotations. While your access lasts, you may:

• read, save and take notes on cards for your own learning;
• export cards you have unlocked to PDF for your personal use, including printing them;
• share a link to any card or deck with anyone.

You may not:

• republish, resell, sublicense or distribute deck content, whether as cards, slides, a course, a newsletter or a training dataset;
• share your export files or account access in order to give others the paid content;
• remove or obscure attribution or copyright notices.

6. Acceptable use

• Do not scrape, crawl at abusive rates, or bulk-download the site. Search engines crawling the public pages are welcome.
• Do not attempt to bypass the paywall, reach locked cards you have not paid for, or access the admin area.
• Do not probe, disrupt or overload the service, or attempt to gain access to another person’s account.
• Do not use the site to break the law.

7. Third-party services

Sign-in is provided by Google and the site is hosted by Vercel; a payment processor will be added when subscriptions launch. Their terms govern their own services, and an outage at any of them can make Bitecards unavailable. The Privacy Policy lists what each one receives.

8. Availability and changes

Bitecards is offered as it is, without any guarantee of uptime. We add, revise, reorganise and occasionally retire decks and cards, and we may change or discontinue features. We will not remove a deck you have paid to access during a paid period without making a reasonable alternative available.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

The service and its content are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement. We work to keep the cards accurate but we do not warrant that they are complete, current or correct for your circumstances.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, for lost profits or data, or for any loss arising from decisions you make based on the content. Our total liability arising out of or relating to the service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty US dollars.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

11. Ending your use

You may stop using Bitecards at any time; sign out and, if you wish, revoke our access to your Google account. We may suspend or end access for breach of these Terms, and will give notice where it is reasonable to do so. Sections 5, 9, 10 and 12 survive.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator is established, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, nothing in these Terms deprives you of the mandatory protections or the right to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence.

Before starting formal proceedings, please email us so we can try to resolve the matter directly — most issues are a misunderstanding and can be fixed the same way.

13. Changes to these Terms

We will update this page when the terms change and revise the “last updated” date. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised Terms. Changes that affect paid subscribers’ rights will be announced before they apply.
